Need help with 2FA Vault? We're here for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is my vault data stored?
Your vault is stored locally on your computer in an encrypted file and is never synced to any cloud service. It stays on your device unless you explicitly copy it yourself.
I forgot my master password. Can I recover my accounts?
No — your vault is encrypted with your master password and there is no recovery mechanism. This is by design to ensure your data stays private. We recommend storing your master password in a password manager.
How do I add an account?
Click "+ Add" and either scan a QR code with your camera or enter the secret key manually. You'll find the secret key in your service's 2FA setup page under "can't scan QR code".
Can I import from another authenticator app?
Yes. Open the "⋯" menu and choose "Import accounts". 2FA Vault imports from Google Authenticator (export QR), Aegis, 2FAS, and plain otpauth:// links — preview the accounts, then add them all at once.
Can I use 2FA Vault on multiple computers?
Yes. Create an encrypted backup on one computer (⋯ menu → "Back up (encrypted)"), then use "Restore from backup" on the other. The backup is protected by a password you choose.
Why does the app request camera permission?
2FA Vault uses your camera to scan QR codes when adding new 2FA accounts. Camera data is processed locally only and is never recorded or transmitted.
Is there a way to back up my accounts?
Yes — use the "⋯" menu and choose "Back up (encrypted)" to save a password-protected backup file wherever you like. To restore it, use "Restore from backup" and enter that password. Your backup never touches the cloud.
Which platforms are supported?
2FA Vault is available on macOS (via the Mac App Store) and Windows (via the Microsoft Store).
